“From The Rough”

How does a designer craft their piece? What is the creative process like, and how does it differ from person to person? Is it different at all? I find myself confronted by these musings on an almost daily basis. From thumbnail to finished product, it’s definitely quite the leap. Creating has always been a challenging feat in and of itself. I typically find myself cycling through many increments and bits of, “something that could be”, as opposed to what it is in the moment. Trying to separate both those internal and external sources of information can also prove to be difficult on some level. Most days, I find myself sitting on an idea for approximately one to three days at most before I take any definitive action.

Why? I think it’s because I’ve had my own fears both in the past and present about messing it up somehow, or not getting it quite right. However, I’m slowly trying to break out of that prison. I write many of my ideas down now when they come to me. It’s hard to specifically determine where they come from though. It almost feels like a lighting bolt of energy that is here in one instant and gone the next. I haven’t necessarily been one to believe in a higher power of sorts, but I can understand how many people can and do credit the creative process to a divine power, and or being. Sometimes I like to go back and look at my thumbnail designs that I have done for projects and compare them in detail to the finished product. Most of the time I end up with something completely different from where I had initially started.
